Cubel selected the jaguar, to represent the jaguar warriors "OCELOPELLI" in the Nahuatl language, to create a second chapter of his winter 2023 collection. It featured 3 animals that embody indigenous deities - among them the jaguar, symbol of strength and its relationship with the earth, the underworld and the "Nocturnal Sun". The dark, spotted skin of the jaguar, which some believe represents the starry night, served as a power garment for the warriors of the Mexica army.
The semiotics behind the jaguar warriors dates back to the ancient cult of the god Tezcatlipoca, god of the night sky. It was a spiritual invocation: these warriors believed they could receive the powers and abilities of this animal during battle. Cubel has concentrated on advancing textile research as a heritage. He intervenes in the fabrics, provoking new techniques in the company of a team specialized in weaving, embroidery, painting, illustration and other disciplines catalogued as art. In addition, he includes technology as a resource to transform the concepts of craftsmanship and design. It always seeks to align a concept to the memory of ancestral myths, and invites artisan and indigenous communities to participate in this work.
